Volunteers are needed to advocate on behalf of the Lithuanian -American Community on May 3rd, 2018 at Capitol Hill. No experience necessary, as all information and training will be provided by the Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC) and the American Latvian Association.

Fellow Honorary Consuls,

My name is Mary Nippert, I am the Honorary Consul of Estonia (for Ohio and Kentucky). My reason for writing is the upcoming Baltic Advocacy day, Thursday, May 3, 2018 in Washington, D.C.. While the Baltic community has overall representation in the United States via the Embassies and Honorary Consuls, there is not much representation in Congress, namely the Senate. Only 7 Senators sit on the Senate Baltic Freedom Caucus. If we all come together and get just the Senators in the states each of us represent collectively we could potentially have 55 Senators on the “Senate Baltic Freedom Caucus” (see list below)!

It is imperative that we come together to support our sending Embassies and represent the Baltic diaspora, given the current political climate with Russia. Let your Congressmen know that the situation in the Baltic’s is important! Please ask them to join the Baltic Caucus in the House of Representatives and the Baltic Freedom Caucus in the Senate. You represent not only yourselves, but the diaspora for your states and in some cases neighboring states as well. Most important, is the fact that those you represent directly translates into votes for the members of Congress, as it is their job to represent their constituents (Baltic diaspora). Many Congressmen and or the staff will want to know how many Baltic diaspora are in their particular state.

Please contact those you know in the Baltic community and those who are friends/supporters of the Baltic States. Ask them to come to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Baltic Advocacy Day (May 3, 2018). If that is not an option for them, ask that they contact their Congressmen, especially in the Senate and ask them to join the Baltic Caucus. For those in the Senate we would also ask their support and co-sponsorship of S. RES 432 (see link below). Senate Resolution 432, congratulates Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on the celebration of their 100th anniversaries.

R.S.V.P. NO LATER THAN APRIL 1, 2018 TO: LazdinsE@Live.com

Contact JBANC or LazdinsE@Live.com for further information if needed.
